IAC float out

Float-out of the country’s first indigenous aircraft carrier (IAC), being built at the Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), will be on August 12, said defence minister A K Antony.
He was talking after formally inducting the first squadron of MiG-29K fighter jets into the Indian Navy in Goa on Saturday. The MiG-29K fighters will replace the ageing Sea Harrier fleet.
The defence minister further said that Russia has promised to deliver aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov (named INS Vikramaditya) by end 2013. Reacting to the deadline set by defence minister, a top CSL source said that the shipyard “will adhere to the time frame’’.
The aircraft carrier, which would be named INS Vikrant after the first such vessel, weighs 40,000 tonne.
It can carry 40 fighter aircraft; the ratio being 1 aircraft/1000 tonne.
