Indo-Bangla border trade gets a boost

India's progress is linked to its neighbours, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina as they jointly inaugurated the Petrapole integrated check post (ICP) by video conference, with West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee also joining in.
Petrapole-Benapole is an important border crossing between India and Bangladesh, with over 50% of bilateral trade passing through it.
Expressing condolences over the attacks in Bangladesh, Modi said, “In the fight against terrorism, do not consider yourself alone. India's full support is with you. It's a matter of pain for me as well as for the people of my country that there were two terror incidents in Dhaka and Kishoreganj during the holy month of Ramzan. It's a sad moment when temples and priests, as also civilians, were subjected to inhumane torture“ .
Bangladesh home minister Asaduzzaman Khan is expected to arrive in India on July 27 and will meet Union home minister Rajnath Singh the following day . The MEA said that trade worth over Rs.15,000 crore happens through Petrapole more than that of all other Indian land ports and land customs stations put together.
