Inter-State Council meeting

After a gap of 10 years, the Centre will be holding a meeting of the Inter-State Council in Delhi on July 16, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and 17 of his key Cabinet colleagues would be meeting all the chief ministers.
The last meeting of the Interstate council, which is headed by the Prime Minister and comprises all chief ministers, was held in year 2006 but the UPA later gave pre-eminence to the Planning Commission platform to interact with the states.The Modi government has revived the Inter-State Council structure after coming the power. with Home Minister Rajnath Singh chairing meetings of all the five zonal councils over the last one year in various parts of the country in which CMs of the respective zonal councils took part. “This will be a major meeting of all CMs with the PM and his top Cabinet Ministers in Delhi to discuss various issues of federalism, centre-state relations and key schemes of the Centre which are under implementation in the states,“ a senior government official said.
