Marine Lines to Versova Coastal Road gets green signal

The Marine Lines to Versova stretch of the coastal road has obtained the green signal from the state coastal zone authority . But there will be no tram rides for Mumbaikars as the idea has been scrapped.
Environment secretary Satish Gavai said the authority has cleared Phase I (the BMC's coastal road segment, Marine Lines to Bandra) and Phase II (the MSRDC's segment, Bandra to Versova). R Mopalwar, managing director, MSRDC, said consultations are being held with fisherfolk to address their concerns as the stretch will be a road on stilts. “It will ensure that Versova beach is unaffected.“ MCZMA had insisted on a tram line along the coastal road, but the BMC had opposed it.
Activists are unhappy about the development. Mukul Mehra, secretary , Nepean Sea Road Citizens' Forum, said certain ramps have been designed such that they will create new problems without resolving traffic jams.
