PMRDA meets for the first time


In a bid to carry out unified development of Pune and its adjoining areas, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has been set up on the lines of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). The first meeting of the PMRDA was held with chief minister Ashok Chavan at Mantralaya. In this meeting it was discussed that for the overall development of Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and the adjoining areas, there was a need to make certain amendments in the current metropolitan region development act. The proposal in this regard would be tabled before the cabinet for its approval said Chavan.
In the meeting it was also decided that a survey of the developmental areas in Pune would be carried out by the PMRDA. Once the survey was complete, it would be easy to undertake developmental projects in Pune, observed Chavan.The authority, of 45 members, will undertake various projects including development of roads, water supply, solid waste management, sewage water treatment and enhancing transport system. The scope of PMRDA will be around 2,943 sq km and would comprise of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations, Lonavala Talegaon-Dabhade and Alandi Municipal Councils.
