PCMC City Centre snippets


The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has received a good response from architects keen on preparing a concept design for the proposed city centre. As many as 64 architects have downloaded the application form, revealed municipal commissioner Ashish Sharma at a news conference on Tuesday. “The city centre will be built on 37 acres near the Autocluster. We are inviting concept designs for the project till June 15. One of the designs will be finalised. We will create zones for offices, retail, entertainment and food. Later we will invite bids from developers to develop the project.” He said that the PCMC would give the land on 60 years lease to the developer and would release the land for the project in phases. “We plan to invite bids for the project till July 15,” he added. Sharma said that earlier the land near the Autocluster had been reserved for a Science Park, exhibition centre and water park. The land is located close to the two bus rapid transit system (BRTS) routes, has high commercial value and is an ideal business location. Avinash Patil, deputy director, town planning said, “All entertainment facilities will be provided in the entertainment zone”. He said that the value of the land for the city centre project is Rs 180 crore as per ready reckoner rates. The state government has approved the change in land use purpose. Pravin Tupe, joint city engineer, said that the PCMC plans to develop the centre along the lines of the Bandra Kurla complex and Mindspace in Mumbai, Houston city centre and other well-known city centres in the world.
