Mayawati splurges on memorials

In yet another dose of funds, around Rs 500 crore were earmarked for ongoing projects in the name of dalit icons in Lucknow in the supplementary grants of Rs 5461.72 crore tabled in the Vidhan Sabha.. The grants were approved by the House on Wednesday.
As compared to the allocation for these projects, the government has earmarked only Rs 10 crore for Bundelkhand region and Rs 50 crore for the 40 districts of eastern UP which consist of 40% of states population. Both the regions are the state’s most backward areas with extreme poverty. The meagre government allocation belies its oft-repeated concern for these areas for which Mayawati has been demanding a special package of Rs 85,000 crore from the Centre and accuses it for turning down her demand.
As for the resources, the government has stated in its documents that Rs 2382.82 crore would be mopped up for the supplementary grants through various tax revenue and the remaining Rs 3078.90 crore would be compensated through austerity measures and freezing the surplus fund allocated in the plan outlay. Of the fresh allocation, Rs 409.42 crore have been earmarked for the Green Eco Garden, being developed here on the Jail Road in the name of BSP founder Kanshi Ram. Other allocations are: Rs 23.83 crore for Manyavar Sri Kanshiramji Smarak Sthal project, Rs 9.47 crore for the exterior development of Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Sthal and Rs 48.22 crore for other payment.
