India & Indonesia

The government said it had started the process of negotiating a bilateral trade agreement with Indonesia, while announcing its intent to conclude talks on a similar pact with the European Union by the end of the year. “The bilateral CECA (Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement) will build on what has already been achieved under the ASEAN-India FTA,” commerce & industry minister Anand Sharma said in a statement. The agreement will cover trade in goods and services, and investment. "Our senior officials have discussed issues on both sides related to non-tariff barriers. India is particularly keen on bovine meat exports to Indonesia and higher participation in the pharmaceutical sector of Indonesia,” he added. The agreement with EU, which was to be concluded this summer, has been delayed as India is unwilling to cut tariffs on wine and automobiles.
