Naidu's assets to be probed now
Spelling trouble for TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, the Andhra Pradesh high court on Monday directed the CBI, Enforcement Directorate (ED) and state police to independently probe the allegations that he and his associates amassed wealth by plundering public assets. The court was acting on a petition filed last month by YSR Congress MLA and YSR’s widow Vijayamma. All the three agencies are to submit their reports within three months in separate sealed covers. The bench said it will decide on the criminal culpability after the three agencies submit their reports. Reacting to the high court directive, Naidu stated that he was the only leader in the country to reveal the assets of his entire family, Naidu said if any of the charges levelled against him turn out to be true, he would donate 25% of his assets and the entire alleged benami assets to YSR Congress. Under the Naidu regime, Reddy Labs was given a sales tax deferment of Rs 25 crore for a period of 14 years. Reddy Labs founder Anji Reddy, through his son Satish Reddy, in a quid pro quo arrangement, bought a Rs 36 lakh worth piece of land from Naidu for Rs 3 crore and got a huge 5 lakh square feet super structure built on it. This was given to Google’s Hyderabad office at a monthly rent of Rs 2 crore.
