A single card to ensure smooth travel for commuters in buses, autos, metros and trains across the country is in the offering. The National Common Mobility Card named ‘More’, which was unveiled by urban development minister Kamal Nath, will ensure seamless, efficient and hassle-free travel experience across the country for commuters using the single card. One can also pay parking and toll fees using this card, an official said, adding that it would take five years before the card becomes operational throughout the country. The card will be operational after fare collection systems are set up across the country that match the specifications of this card. The brand name More has been chosen to signify the national bird peacock as also literally, to convey that you get more and more by using this card. “Seamless connectivity across multiple modes of transportation will increase the popularity and acceptability of public transport nationally and make public transport more appealing to the user,” the ministry said. It is hoped that ‘More’ will benefit public transport organisations by significantly increasing overall efficiency and providing control and better management of tariff structure. The card will also reduce cash handling and hence lesser pilferage and fraud, along with helping in better planning based on passenger statistics.
