NaMo moves to swanky office

A swanky ministers’ block named Swarnim Sankul -1 in the new secretariat complex was inaugurated by chief minister Narendra Modi on Monday. Modi and his cabinet will sit in the fiv-estoried building while the ministers of state will be lodged in Swarnim Sankul-2 which is under construction. The total cost of the two blocks is estimated to be around Rs 150 crore.
A senior class-IV employee at the secretariat Savjibhai Damor performed the task of lighting the ceremonial lamp in the presence of ministers and senior officers after Modi cut the ribbon and walked inside.
Swarnim Sankul-1 has four storeys in addition to the ground floor and basement. About 1,000 staff members of all categories will be working from the building. It has ministers’ chambers apart from staff offices, conference rooms, administrative office, data centre and a waiting lounge.
It has a gate and lift dedicated only to the chief minister. His cabin is double the size of those allocated to his cabinet colleagues and has a different seating arrangement.
The building was readied in 16 months. The estimated cost of the two blocks at the start of the project was Rs112 crore before it went up to Rs150 crore.
However security officers were not content with the infrastructure. A senior police officer in VVIP security disclosed that the top brass was not consulted before the construction was undertaken.
