Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe assured chief minister Vasundhara Raje of his country's support for increasing investment flow to Rajasthan. The CM is on a week-long visit to Japan for the promotion of Resurgent Rajasthan, a global investors' summit to be held in November.
“India and Japan are friends. Japanese companies are being encouraged to invest overseas and it is likely that Rajasthan too would see increased investment flow,“ Abe told Raje during the meeting.
Abe pointed out that his government and Japanese investors are keeping a close watch on the changing investment climate in India. He highlighted the strengthening ties between the two nations and the efforts made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the meeting Raje apprised the Japanese PM of the recent initiatives taken in the state and briefed him on the growth of the Neemrana region, that houses the country's first exclusive Japanese industrial zone. Over 200 Japanese live and work in the area. Raje also invited the premier to the state and requested him to make Japan as a partner country for Resurgent Rajasthan.
Later, Raje met minister for economy , trade and industry Yoichi Miyazawa and discussed bilateral economic relations. For mutual cooperation, especially in the areas of investment promotion, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed with the ministry.
The CM also met the chief of Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) Hiroshi Watanabe. JBIC has showed interest in water projects and mentioned for the first time in its internal study that India is being ranked first as an investment destination for Japanese companies.
Raje called on Japan External Trade Organization chairman Hiroyuki Ishige and Hideaki Domichi, president of Japan International Cooperation Agency .
She mentioned that sanitation for women, lake rehabilitation and its conservation are a few possible areas for investment. Raje had fruitful interactions with the senior management of Sojitz Corporation, a $50 billion company which in partnership with Larsen & Toubro Ltd, is working on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor.
