Lenovo makes in India

Lenovo has begun local manufacturing of smartphones at Sriperumbudur near Chennai through global contract manufacturing partner Flextronics, becoming the second Chinese company after Xiaomi to have its mobile devices made in India.
The company has started making two 4G smartphones, the Moto E and the Lenovo K3 Note, at the plant. Amar Babu, COO, Asia Pacific, and chairman of Lenovo India, said these and other models would account for a total of six million smartphones from the local plant by the end of the financial year.
The company is looking to source almost 30% of components locally. Babu said Lenovo is talking to the government through the MAIT lobby to increase the local availability of components.
