First snowfall of the season in Kashmir

Upper reaches of Kashmir Valley received season’s first snowfall on Wednesday while rains lashed the plains. Met office attributed the sudden weather change to the western disturbances from the Arabian sea. ‘‘Srinagar recorded a night temperature of 8.8 degrees C while the maximum was recorded at 21.7 degrees C,’’ a Met department official said. Much to the delight of tourists, scenic resort towns of Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonmarg in the Valley received medium snowfall. However, the lifeline Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Leh highways remained open despite heavy rains at several places.
