Man Talk

Admitting that India has not been “very successful in warding off terror attacks’’, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said terrorists had not given up their efforts to destabilise the country. The PM rubbished the Lahore police chief’s claims about an Indian hand in the attack on Lankan cricketers in Lahore. He dubbed it a “usual tactic’’ by Islamabad to divert attention from its failures. He also reiterated that there was no question of resuming the peace talks until those responsible for 26/11 had been nailed. If Pakistan has blamed Indians for a majority of the attacks in Swat, perhaps there’s a reason for it—most of the killed terrorists were not circumcised, and were thus declared Hindus. However, it has come to light that Pashtuns from Waziristan, where the Pak Taliban come from, don’t undergo circumcision.

"I was very clear that if the nuclear deal had not gone through, I would have resigned as prime minister ... I admit we have not been very successful in warding off terror attacks... There is a serious threat... There is no doubt that terrorists have not given up their evil design to destabilize our country to interfere with the poll process.... I am not used to abusive language. That’s part of the culture I inherited from my parents. I believe using harsh language only creates bitterness ....I don’t want to give Advani the privilege of believing he can be an alternative PM. I admit I cannot match him in public speaking. But we need a PM who can act ....When the Kandahar hijack took place, the NDA sent ministers with terrorists. When 26/11 happened, we sent commandos ....There is no pressure on India to start a dialogue with Pakistan. If there is any such attempt, we will not succumb to that pressure Dialogue cannot resume unless Pakistan gives sincere evidence of its willingness to prosecute all those involved in the Mumbai attacks .
