In the J&K Assembly....

People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti said Jammu & Kashmir assembly speaker Mubarak Gul had assured her party that ex-army chief V K Singh would be summoned within a month to explain his statement on alleged payoffs to the state’s ministers. “We hope the speaker fulfils his commitment to expose those who have taken money from the army,’’ she told reporters.
She described Singh’s statement as the tip of the iceberg and alleged “other agencies” were also playing their part in “manipulating democratic institutions’’ in the state. “It has always been the policy of New Delhi to manipulate J&K’s democratic setup through money. Due to that Kashmiris lost faith in Delhi. It is a serious matter and is on since 1947.”
Mehbooba slammed the ruling National Conference for its “drama in the assembly’’ over the privilege motion against Singh. “The speaker changed his statements thrice. He first stated he will write a letter. Law minister Saifullah Mir said the speaker would summon Singh,’’ she said. “Our legislators stormed the well of the house thrice and forced the speaker to summon the former chief within a month.’’
