The army is engaged in a major operation in the Keran sector along the LoC in J&K for the past nine days to foil an infiltration bid by militants, suspected to be backed by Pakistan’s special troops. Five Indian soldiers have been injured in the gunfire.
The army, however, has denied that the ultras have taken shelter in an abandoned village in Kupwara district.
The operation launched on September 24 is continuing with the Army saying the magnitude of infiltration from multiple points at the Line of Control was quite different from the trend seen in the earlier attempts in an indication that some special troops of Pakistan were involved. About 30 to 40 terrorists were reported to be involved in the infiltration.
Army had said they have killed at least 10 to 12 militants. However, the bodies are yet to be retrieved. They are using unmanned aerial vehicles to monitor the operation.
General Officer Commanding of the Army's 15 Corps Lt Gen Gurmit Singh said the analysis of this infiltration bid indicated the involvement of Border Action Team, a mixture of Pakistani regulars and militants.
