Maharashtra to get new Cluster Development Policy

Maharashtra Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan has said the much-awaited new policy on cluster development will be published next week.
After the Mumbra building collapse incident in October, Chavan had said that individual buildings in Mumbai and its peripheral areas should not be developed. “Several buildings should be clubbed and redeveloped together. Cluster development is key to the city’s development. This will help create maximum open and green space and also resolve the parking and traffic issues,” said Chavan.
Senior government officials said that there were several lapses in the current policy and because of this only two out of the 48 cluster development project proposals were approved since 2009 when the policy came into effect.
“We have made several amendments in the policy. We want builders to undertake bigger plots for cluster development,” the chief minister said.
