Assets of Varun Gandhi have grown from Rs.4.76 crore in 2009 to about Rs.35 crore far exceeding the assets declared by his cousin Rahul Gandhi of less than Rs.10 crore. Varun owns two paintings worth of Rs. 12,59,766.
As per affidavit available on state chief electoral office website (http:// affidavitarchive.nic.in), the 34-year old’s assets include those worth Rs.86,88,724 owned by his wife Yamini Roy Chowdhury.
His total moveable assets worth Rs.19,96,29,975 include bonds and debentures worth more than Rs 3 crore which was Rs.1,95,050 in 2009. He also owns 115.114 kg of precious gems, gold and silver jewellery worth Rs.1,00,99,047 and three firearm weapons worth Rs 75,000 besides several other valuable items.
From 2009 to 2014, Varun has invested heavily in bonds and debentures compared to other financial instrumental savings such has LIC and post office saving which was Rs 98,84,142 in 2009 compared to Rs 31 lakh in 2014.
His wife who owns more than Rs 11 lakh in movable assets, has a painting worth Rs.2,49,250 and jewellery worth Rs.5,50,000.
The multimillionaire young candidate doesn't have a vehicle in his list of assets. Varun owns immoveable property with net worth of Rs.14.90 crore against his wife’s immoveable assets worth Rs 75 lakh. He also inherited land worth Rs.4,90,00,000. His mother Maneka Gandhi is a little ahead of him with assets worth Rs 37 crore. Varun's total income shown in I-T returns for 2012-2013 is Rs.2,78,81,500 whereas his wife income tax return is Rs.5,23,270.
