IIM Vizag


The Port City's dream of having an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) inched closer to reality with Union HRD minister Smriti Irani laying the foundation stone for the premier B-school at Gambheeram on the outskirts of the city. Speaking on the occasion, the Union minister said IIM-Visakhapatnam (IIM-V) would be put on the fast track and would open its doors to the first batch from the coming academic year (2015-16). She went on to add that the fledgling institution was in excellent hands with the mentor being IIM-Bangalore.
Irani said the IIM Bill would be introduced in Parliament very soon to set up six IIMs across India.
Union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu said the Centre was keen on implementing online education to ensure skill development for all and that it would be totally free for certain groups and also for those who require special skills.
IIM-Bangalore director Sushil Vachani said IIM-B would mentor IIM-V in such a manner that it turns into a world-class education centre. He also said to fulfill the need for better quality higher education and skill development for all, they had already launched several online courses.
Stating that IIM-V would help AP take a giant leap in education, state HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that while the business school would commence operations from a temporary set-up at Andhra University , the new campus would be ready two years down the line.
Chief minister Chandrababu naidu and Union civil aviation minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju were present at the foundation laying ceremony .
