Dense fog has been affecting flight schedules in southern India too.The visibility at Chennai airport was reduced to 50-100 metres on Sunday , hitting operations for at least five hours. Airlines had to delay 25 departures from the city and divert seven others to Bengaluru and Hyderabad. The heavy fog, uncommon in Chennai, disrupted the schedules of hundreds of passengers.
A Met official said fog was rare in Chennai but condensation of water due to a combination of northerly winds and high moisture levels in air affects visibility for around five days in the first two weeks of January.
