Blueprint for Ulhas river clean-up ready

The Ulhas river cleanup will be taken up under the Maharashtra government's Amrut scheme.
In an affidavit filed before the National Green Tribunal, Pune Bench that is hearing a plea to restore the Ulhas river, state chief secretary Swadhin Kshatriya said that a state-constituted committee has drawn up a timeline within which it would provide and commission sewage treatment plant. “It will include connecting household sewer lines to these treatment plants,“ he said.The plea to restore the river was filed by NGO Vanashakti.
Kalyan-Dombivli municipal corporation, Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, Kulgaon-Badlapur council and Ambernath council have been roped in for the project, which is expected to complete between May 2017 and December 2018. To stop the pollution of Ulhas river, the Khemani nullah will be temporarily diverted and the sewage will be diverted into the saline area till the work is complete.
Kshatriya said that on the recommendations of the National Institute of Oceanography , the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation will lay a sewage disposal line, for which tender process has begun.
