Cyclone Vardah

Cyclone Vardah, which intensified into a severe cyclonic storm on Saturday , is expected to make a landfall on Monday night between Sriharikota and Krishnapatnam. The Indian Meteorological Department said in its evening bulletin that Vardah will maintain its peak intensity till late Sunday evening. “Thereafter, it is likely to weaken while moving towards the Andhra Pradesh coast. It is likely to cross the coast between Sriharikota and Krishnapatnam on December 12 night.“
Squally winds at a speed of 100-155 kmph will hit the coast when the cyclone crosses the state, while rainfall in excess of 20 cm is expected to hit several parts. “Heavy winds will lash the coast on Sunday and Monday and the wind speed will touch 135-155 kmph when the severe cyclone crosses the coast,“ an official said.
Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, who reviewed the preparedness at the command and control centre here on Saturday , directed the officials of Krishna, Guntur, Nellore and Prakasam districts to be on high alert and told them to evacuate the affected people before the cyclone hits the coast. He said the state government has been monitoring the cyclone in coordination with Isro.
