New skyline for BKC ?

The MMRDA is contemplating building iconic buildings on the unsold plots at BKC and leasing them out to generate revenue.Iconic buildings are structures that create an impact on the city's skyline.Internationally renowned architectual firm Norman Foster had mooted this idea to the Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh when he visited London recently.Till now, the MMRDA - the special planning authority for Bandra Kurla Complex - usually auctioned a plot of land to interested buyers and the money generated was used for infrastructure work in the city. The BKC is spread over 370 hectares, of which only 20 hectares remain unsold.MMRDA officials estimate that it would cost them about Rs.2,400 Crore to develop the iconic buildings on the unsold plot. They expect Rs.5,000 crore every year as revenue generated from leasing the properties.
