Ahmedabad's BRTS control room set for launch

A state-of-the-art control room for much-awaited Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) is all set for launch. Ahmedabad Janmarg Limited, the special purpose vehicle for governing BRTS operations in the city, has developed a BRTS control room at Usmanpura. If all goes according to plan, the control room will start functioning within a fortnight, say sources. This is for the first time that AMC has come up with a biometric time attendance recorder which offers fastest fingerprint identification through intelligent fingerprint recognition technology. Talking about the new system, AJL official said, “BRTS bus will be a model for other cities to follow. Hence, we want it to be punctual. The system will help us maintain quality of bus service as per international standards.” The main entrance of control room is fitted with a projector showing real time movement of BRTS buses on designated BRTS route through Global Positioning System (GPS). Presently, the control room has seating capacity of 39 persons, a projector, two other separate rooms for bulk initializing machine, server room, card personalization room, among other facilities. Each of the AJL buses will be fitted with GPS equipment giving minute details like speed and timing of the bus approaching BRTS bus stops. An AJL member said, “BRTS control room has been fitted with advanced technology. Control room has been given a corporate look and a feel of BRTS bus stop from outside.” “We have a dedicated centre for BRTS control system which will monitor bus movement.” added the AJL official.
