Somewhere in Yanam....

The country’s tallest Bharat Mata statue with her lion will adorn the rustic seaside town of Yanam, Puducherry’s enclave in Andhra Pradesh. The statue, meant to promote national integration in the state at a time when it is riven by the Telangana issue, will also be part of an effort to boost tourist inflow into the region. The territory’s revenue and tourism minister Malladi Krishna Rao said that the 36-foot tall bronze statue, which costs Rs one crore, will be dedicated to the country by Puducherry chief minister V Vaithilingam in the presence of Andhra Pradesh chief minister K Rosaiah among others at a function on January 6 in Yanam. Sponsored by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) as a part of its corporate social responsibility project, the 11-tonne statue depicts Bharat Mata, personification of Mother India as a goddess, holding a flag accompanied by a 15-foot tall lion. The statue is mounted on a 13-feet pedestal. Vijayawada-based Saibaba Mega Silpasala designed the statue
