Somewhere in Karnataka....

The Congress kept its election word of supplying rice at Re 1/kg, with chief minister Siddaramaiah handing over the first bag of 30 kg to a woman beneficiary, Kala. Taking on opponents of the party’s pet scheme, he said the government was committed to the cause of the poor.
“Those talking against the rice scheme are anti-poor. They’re making baseless and politically motivated statements, I won’t heed them as I’m committed to serving the poor,’’ the chief minister said.
The party’s showpiece event, though, gave an inkling to the true state of party affairs: KPCC president G Parameshwara kept away from the rice scheme launch, citing protocol and that it was a government function.
The scheme also kicked off in the districts.
