NaMo's Vijay Sankalp rally

A belligerent Narendra Modi rebuked home minister Sushilkumar Shinde and former environment minister Jayanthi Natrajan.
The BJP’s PM hopeful objected strongly against Shinde’s letter to the chief ministers asking them to review terror cases against Muslims, and took a jibe at Natrajan saying there was a ‘Jayanti tax’ under her watch at the environment ministry that derailed crucial projects.
Addressing a huge ‘Vijay Sankalp’ rally at Merces on the outskirts of Panaji, Goa, Modi criticized Natrajan’s functioning and alleged all files in the MoEF were pending because of a new tax in Delhi, ‘Jayanti tax’, and unless it was ‘paid’ no file would move in the ministry. “We’ve heard of income tax, sales tax, commercial tax in the past, but this is the first time we are hearing of a Jayanti tax!” he said.
Natrajan reacted saying, “Modi can’t intimidate me into silence. He’s making allegations as I’ve blocked a few major projects in Gujarat and stopped all mining in Goa.” Modi’s attack comes in the backdrop of Natrajan’s removal from environment ministry amid complaints that she was sitting on clearances for important projects.
On Shinde’s statement that he will send letters to state governments asking them to be careful while arresting Muslims, Modi wondered if there was any religion of criminals. “The law should be that a criminal from any religion, caste, creed, language should be treated the same way and if anyone is innocent he/ she should get justice,” he said. Why Muslims be spared if found guilty, asks Modi
Modi called for a common civil code saying the government should have one ideology: India first. The constitution, he said, is our only scripture.
On Aam Aadmi Party, Modi said the publicity that the rookie party is getting can’t be a substitute for proven experience – a more than obvious reference to his own experience in governance. He also wondered about the buildup of Arvind Kejriwal saying BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee never owned a house and Goa CM Manohar Parikkar leads an austere life and moves around on a scooty. “Favourable television cannot equal vision,” he said.
The Congress government, Modi said, had stopped functioning and pointed out how mining in Goa had come to a standstill due to decisions taken by the Centre. Stating that mining had a major role to play on the livelihoods of Goans and in generating employment for the youth and revenue, he said mining would be up and running in about four months, referring to a post election scenario.
