Of a SIT Probe into 1984 Riots....

Lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung has given consent to the Delhi government’s recommendation for constitution of a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
The AAP government will now recommend to the LG the names of officials for SIT. The government wants that the investigation team must not include Delhi Police officials to prevent bias.
The government had last week recommended setting up of a SIT to probe the riots within a time-frame of one year. “The LG has given his nod to set-up the SIT,” chief minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Monday. He had met Jung in the morning.
Urban development minister Manish Sisodia informed that besides reopening of FIRs, the SIT would inquire into allegations of destruction of evidence by police. He said all cases which were closed or shown untraced would be reopened, re-investigated and, if needed, fresh FIRs would be registered.
The decision to form the SIT to investigate the riots was slammed by Congress. Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee chief Arvinder Singh said the decision was aimed at wooing the Sikh community ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
The decision to form SIT came against the backdrop of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi admitting that some party men were probably involved in the violence.
