Skill India

India should emerge as the human resource capital of the world, emulating China which has become the factory of the world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said as he unveiled the government's massive Skill India Mission on Wednesday .
Asserting that the government had declared a war on poverty and was determined to win it, the PM said each poor, underprivileged youth was a soldier in this war.
Noting that India would have surplus manpower of 4 to 5 crore over the next decade, the PM emphasized the need to provide this youthful manpower with skills and ability to tackle global challenges, and warned that the demographic dividend would otherwise become a challenge in itself.
He said that if the 20th century saw India's foremost technical institutes the IITs make a name for themselves globally , the 21st century required that India's ITIs (Industrial Training Institutes), acquire global recognition for producing quality skilled manpower. The PM said India can become the world's largest provider of skilled workforce for the world.
Finance minister Arun Jaitley said the manufacturing sector was reviving thanks to the `Make in India' initiative. He called for converting India's huge manpower into a resource. Rajiv Pratap Rudy , minister of state for skills development and entrepreneurship, said the government would bring a legislation in Parliament to set up skill universities in each state to create a large pool of skilled workers.
