Housing For All in Maharashtra

The Maharashtra government has decided to implement the Prime Minister's `Housing for All by 2022' scheme in 51 cities in the state.
A plan of action will be drawn up to ensure its implementation by different housing agencies, such as Mhada and Cidco, depending on the jurisdiction.
Maharashtra is nearly 50% urbanized and the state's urban needs differ from those of the rest of the country. The shortlisted cities have more than 22 lakh slums. The policy will have self certification that the beneficiary does not own a house anywhere in the country. If a beneficiary's declaration is proved “false“, punitive action will follow. Under the policy, the government will subsidize the home loan interest. The Centre will pay Rs 1.5 lakh and the state Rs 1 lakh per house respectively.
The scheme will be executed through private developers, using land as a resource.
