Navy test-fires long-range missiles

The Indian Navy successfully completed the maiden test firing of its newly developed Long Range Surface to Air Missile onboard a warship on Thursday .
The test was conducted in Arabian Sea on the Western Seaboard by INS Kolkata, wherein the missile successfully intercepted an aerial target at extended ranges of approximately 100 km. Two missiles were fired on Wednesday on high speed targets, during naval exercises being undertaken in the Arabian Sea and the final test was undertaken on Thursday . The project has been a joint effort by the Israeli and Indian forces in recent years, and has become officially operational in both navies.
A source in the Indian Navy said the system was fitted prior commissioning of INS Kolkata. “The last sea trial of the warship was by Israel towards the end of November,“ said the official.
