MTHL snippets

Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has agreed to the three new conditions set by the Japan International Co-operation Agency for the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL). This will raise the cost of the project from Rs.11,700 crore to Rs.17,750 crore. The agency will provide a loan of Rs.15,000 crore. The conditions include an eight-lane bridge instead of a six-lane one. The two extra lanes will be for evacuation during emergencies. Another condition is that the central part of the bridge (4 km long) be made of steel instead of concrete, which would push the cost up by Rs.5,000 crore. JICA has also demanded that 10%of the total project cost be set aside as contingency fund.
