Mumbai to get new Monorail Routes

Mumbai may get several new monorail routes as the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) plans to collaborate with BEST.MMRDA commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad said work for the first of the three routes, which have been chalked out earlier, may begin by October. Several other east-west routes are being discussed.A large part of the funding for the monorail project may come from the joint development of BEST depots.The three routes, plans for which are already in place, are Malabar Hill-BKC, Chembur-Mahul-Govandi and Lokhandwalla Complex-Kanjur Marg. The financial bids are scheduled to open on July 15.
