
For once, Gandhinagar will have its own distinct lake to flaunt. Called Gandhinagar Lake, this water body will be ready by February next year and will be the single largest lake in the city. It is being developed by various departments, including roads and buildings department while the greening bit will be undertaken by the forest department. Located along the minister’s enclave road, opposite Indroda park and natural riverfront project, the lake is spread over an area of 24,000 sq m and is being made at a cost of Rs 3 crore. Right from a jogging track to informal hang outs and food joints, the lake will house all including water sports. Senior officials in capital projects department of roads and buildings department add that recreational zones and even an amphitheatre for cultural activities will be part of the lake development.“There are plans that the lake can be incorporated with Indroda park area and in the green zone. For the time being, we will have the lake and a walkway around it ready by February. We are inviting suggestions for the development. Work on the lake was stalled for three months due to monsoon,” said a senior official of capital projects department.
