Mysore airport to take off soon

Mysore airport will no longer be a ghost airport. Private airlines are now warming up to the idea of operating flights to and from the city. Kingfisher Airlines (KF), the airline division of Vijay Mallya’s UB Group, has applied for approvals with the aviation regulatory authorities to start air services to Mysore. The airline said, “Yes, we have finalized plans to commence flights on the route Bangalore-Mysore-Chennai. We have applied for requisite approvals and are awaiting the clearances.” The airline went on to say, “A start date for these services will be announced once the approvals are in place.”
Some have seen a Bangalore-Mysore flight as pointless, given that the two cities are well connected by road and rail services,
and the travel time is short. Practically every half hour there is a bus between the two cities, with ticket prices ranging from Rs 75 to Rs 300. A cheaper option is a non-stop train ticket that is priced below Rs 70. However, KF says that “the routing of their flights is planned in such a way that guests travelling on Kingfisher Airlines’ route network are able to travel to and from Mysore via convenient transit points, thereby offering excellent onward and inbound connectivity.” KF also said it would restart its services to Belgaum with the introduction of the route Bangalore-Belgaum-Mumbai.
