Separatists are claiming a major victory after the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) adopted a joint communique calling upon New Delhi to allow their fact-finding mission undertake an independent investigation into the discovery of “mass graves” in Jammu and Kashmir.
The OIC asked India to allow its fact-finding mission, international rights groups an humanitarian organisations to visit Jammu and Kashmir to assess the rights situation.
A joint communiqué adopted in Cairo welcomed Pakistan’s proposal for an investigation by the UN Military Observers Group for India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) into recent ceasefire violations along the Line of Control.
Last month, Pakistan troops violated the sanctity of the LoC and crossed into Indian side and killed two jawans at Mendhar sector in Poonch district.
The communique further called on India to undertake an “independent investigation into the discovery of mass graves and ensure free and fair trial of those responsible” for “heinous crimes”. The communique was passed in the absence of Hurriyat Conference representative Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who could not travel to Cairo as his passport has not been renewed by New Delhi till now.
