Of Mamata's London Dreams....

The West Bengal CM has prepared a plan for developing the Hooghly waterway system of greater Kolkata on the lines of the Thames in London
The transport department is planning to utilize 57 jetties along a 324-km stretch upstream from Tribeni in Hooghly for the project
The idea is to take pressure off the road and rail transport and promote tourism in the state
A study by the transport department shows a huge potential for extended launch services beyond the city
Initially, the West Bengal Surface Transport Corporation (WBSTC) will run the ferry services. The government will also seek the participation of private players and big cooperative societies that have the expertise in running launch services on the Hooghly
