Pune Metro snippets

The central government has given approval to make changes recommended by the guardian minister Girish Bapat's committee, appointed by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. There was a meeting of Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) leaders, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar with transport minister Nitin Gadkari and Union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu. It was announced that the first route of Ramwadi to Vanaz of the Metro service will be an elevated and have slight modifications in the route.
The Metro will run along the Mutha, between Alka Talkies and Pune station. Earlier, it was supposed to pass via Jangli Maharaj Road.
On Wednesday, two delegations, met Gadkari and Naidu to discuss the city's Metro project, outer ring road and expansion of the existing Lohegaon airport, among other things. “At present, there are 95 flights per day. For increasing frequency, the Centre has approved our demand to use 10 acre defence land for expansion of the airport, on lease. We are checking on concerns raised by a private builder about handing over the 25-acre plot. A 101-km ring road will be laid from Somatane Phata to Chakan. The work will be handed over to the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC).
The state Cabinet had approved of the Metro service for Pune in October 2013, but the deadline for completion of phase one was pushed to 2021.In June 2012, the Cabinet approved the 14.925 km long elevated route from Vanaz to Ramwadi, deciding that phase-I of the project will be completed in five years -by 2017.
The revised estimated cost of the project is now pegged at Rs.10,813 crore. Now, the Chinchwad-Swargate corridor will cost Rs.6,960 crorre and the Vanaz-Ramwadi route will cost Rs.3,223 crore. The total cost for both corridors has increased to nearly Rs.2,199 crore, compared to the estimated cost in 2009.
