Domino's: 1000 stores

US pizza maker Domino's plans to open around 800 restaurants in the next four years in India as it looks to leverage technology to beef up sales, Patrick Doyle, president & CEO of Domino's has said.
With 1,000 stores, India is already Domino's largest market outside the US in terms of number of restaurants, while UK, with around 800 stores, is the third largest “Globally, with $4-5 billion in digital sales, we are among the top five e-commerce companies in the world. Around half of our sales come from online,“ Doyle said. “We would like to follow a similar strategy in India.“
Domino's, the world's second largest pizza company after Pizza Hut, has around 72% market share in the country's organised pizza market. “We have seen around 3.5 million app downloads and have about 5 million followers on Facebook,“ he said. In the US, the company is working with automobile maker Ford to develop a voice-activated technology to help motorists order pizza while driving.
In India, orders from smartphones contribute 30% to Domino's digital business and it is among the fast growing streams of revenue for the company since average transaction value from online is significantly higher than those from offline.
“Around 50% of our total sales comes from deliveries and 35% of that now comes from digital orders,“ said Ajay Kaul, CEO of Jubilant Foodworks, which runs Domino's and Dunkin Donuts in the country . “We are investing heavily in tech and putting in more people there than anywhere else.“
India contributes around 5% to the company's revenues while the US, where it has about 5,000 stores, accounts for 50%. India, where the company has adapted its offerings to suit local tastes, is particularly important as business in China has been dismal. Domino's has a small presence in China compared to its rivals.
