NaMu Airport update

In a major push for the Rs.16,000-crore Navi Mumbai international airport, tenders for Ulwe river diversion and Ulwe hill cutting have been floated. The airport is being developed in phases.
The river diversion and the hill cutting will change the city's landscape. Cidco plans to video record the Ulwe hill cutting. It floated the Rs.91.95-crore tender for the river diversion and the Rs.1,700-crore bid for cutting the hill this week. Cidco chief engineer and in-charge of the twin projects Sanjay Chaudhiri said that both the bids will be finalized for simultaneous operations, which will start in September, after monsoon.
The work span is around 18 months for both the projects. The river has been traditionally used by villagers and will continue to be accessible to them, Cidco said.
