Congress gets Puducherry

The only silver lining for Congress came in tiny Puducherry , where it emerged as the single largest party winning 15 of the Union Territory's 30 seats, dealing a blow to chief minister N Rangasamy of All India NR Congress (AINRC). The AINRC, which contested alone, bagged only eight seats, showing Rangasamy's waning popularity and leaving his political future uncertain.
The AIADMK, which like AINRC contested alone, won four seats. The Congress's alliance partner DMK managed to win just two of the nine seats it contested. The lone independent, V Ramachandran (10,797 votes), defeated former minister and Congress candidate E Valsaraj (8,658 votes) in Mahe and has pledged his support to Congress. But it's clear Congress will form government with the support of two DMK MLAs, with Ramachandran thrown in for good measure.
