Tiger killed by truck near Uttarakhand reserve

A five-year-old male tiger was killed after being hit by a speeding truck on the Haridwar-Najibaba highway , close to the Rajaji Tiger Reserve. While many wild animals have been killed in accidents on the busy road, this is the first instance of a tiger death. The animal is believed to have ventured on the road from the Chilla range of the Rajaji reserve, which has only 13 tigers.
The injured tiger, lying on the road, bleeding profusely , was spotted by forest staff on Saturday night, which then informed divisional forest officer (Haridwar) H K Singh. A team of senior forest department officials led by Singh reached the spot, but the animal had died by then. The vehicle or its driver could not be identified as no eyewitness has come forward so far.
