Amma suffers cardiac arrest

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa suffered a cardiac arrest on Sunday evening and “is being treated and monitored by a team of experts including cardiologists, pulmonologist and the critical care specialists“, said a late evening statement from Apollo Hospitals.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh reportedly spoke to Tamil Nadu Governor in-charge C Vidhyasagar Rao following the Apollo hospitals bulletin. The governor rushed to the state and landed at around 11.15 pm at Chennai Airport. Top AIADMK representatives including MLAs and MPs also rushed to Apollo Hospitals following reports about the chief minister's health condition.
As news about the setback in Jayalalithaa's health spread, AIADMK workers, including a large number of women, started gathering at the hospital. They began holding impromptu prayer sessions outside the hospital where the chief minister has been undergoing treatment since September 22, this year. Police were seen controlling the stream of people to prevent any untoward incident even as they blocked the main road leading to the hospital.
Barricades have been set up in the vicinity of the hospital and police presence could be seen in arterial roads near the hospital. Many women, who gathered near the main gate of the hospital, could be seen praying fervently for the well-being of the chief minister.
