Hinjewadi - Shivaji Nagar Metro update

The 23.33 km Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar metro rail project moved a step forward with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority inviting bids from firms for request for qualification.
The bidders are expected to submit their proposals by April. Thereafter, the agencies would be shortlisted for tender.

The PMRDA chief Mahesh Zagade said that there is a plan to connect the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar metro route to other routes and even to the ring road to ensure better connectivity. The PMRDA is implementing the metro project through public private partnership mode on design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis. The metro route is likely to benefit thousands of commuters travelling to Hinjewadi IT Park and adjacent areas. At present, most of them depend on private vehicles because of limited public transport options.

The PMRDA had appointed the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for preparing the detailed project report of the metro route. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs.700 crore. After getting the nod, PMRDA completed the required formalities to invite bids within nine months.

Besides Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar metro, Pune will have metro rail from Vanaj to Ramwadi and Pimpri to Shivajinagar and Swargate. Both these routes are being implemented by MAHA METRO.

In December 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had performed the ground-breaking ceremony of the Pimpri-Swargate corridor.
