Sindhudurg to get an Airport

The steering committee set up to coordinate and monitor various clearances approved its first greenfield airport costing Rs 492 crore at Sindhudurg in Maharashtra. The new domestic airport is expected to decongest Goa’s Dabolim airport.
The Airports Authority of India has supported the site in its technical report. The Maharashtra government had proposed setting up the airport by public-private partnership (PPP) mode. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation will be the nodal agency for selecting the PPP partners. The government has identified 271 hectares of nonagricultural land owned by it for the project. Terms of the contract will be worked out with the centre, the civil aviation ministry said. The guidelines for approval of proposals for setting up airports and heliports were also finalised.
