States demand greater share in Central tax

States asked the Finance Commission to increase their share in the divisible pool of Central taxes to 50% from the current 30.5%.Besides, states should be given the power to concurrently tax all taxable services, empowered committee of state finance ministers on VAT (value added tax) chairman Asim Dasgupta said. These demands were put forward by the VAT panel in its presentation to the 13th Finance Commission, headed by Vijay Kelkar.
