Delhi's new Metro Hub takes shape


1 Mandi House station will be an interchange and is expected to take away a major chunk of the crowd from Rajiv Chowk station
2 It is part of the Central Secretariat – Kashmere Gate corridor (9.37 km) which lies completely underground
3 The new Mandi House station is coming up next to the existing one
4 The new station will be on standard gauge with island platforms. The existing station is on broad gauge with side platforms
5 Central Secretariat -Kashmere Gate is an extension of the existing Central Secretariat-Badarpur corridor
6 At present, commuters on the Badarpur corridor have to change two trains—at Central Secretariat and Rajiv Chowk—to get to the Blue Line. The Mandi House interchange will allow them to switch to the Blue Line directly
About 10,000 passengers use the Mandi House station daily now

IMPROVED CONNECTIVITY
From Central Secretariat, Janpath, parts of Connaught Place, Mandi House, National School of Drama, high court, Bengali Market and Barakhamba Road. Changing lines will also get easy

STATE OF WORK ON THE STRETCH
Trial runs in progress since Dec 30, 2013
Civil work has been completed.
Finishing work in progress Fare gates, escalators and some lift lobbies have been installed
Installation of false ceiling and IT equipment going on
Invite for CMRS safety inspection to be sent soon
Preliminary inspection by fire department done.
Clearance likely this week
Full efforts are being made to open the line for commuter operations by the end of this month
