EC extends voting time by 2 hours

To increase the voting percentage in Lok Sabha polls, which will be held amid peak summers, Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the voting hours by two. Voting will start from 7 in the morning and will continue till 6 pm.
Under the provisions of section 56 of representation of the people act, ECI is empowered to fix polling hours that should not be less than eight, said an official from EC, Rajasthan.
Meanwhile, ECI has directed all the chief electoral officers that there should be adequate facilities for poll officials to beat the heat.
All chief medical officers have also been instructed that paramedical staff with adequate supply of medicines must be deployed at mobile petrol units and sector offices.
