The Maharashtra state government has been receiving flak from the opposition, for their empty promises with regards to the Shivaji memorial.
“Shivaji memorial is far from being realised. Since the past 10 years, the state govt has been bringing the proposal in the budget, but has done little to realise the dream of the people. The memorial exists only on paper and drawings,” said Vinod Tawde, leader of the opposition.
Ramdas Kadam, Sena MLC, said, “If you (Congress–NCP) cannot shoulder the responsibility of the memorial, which is the dream of each Maharashtrian, we will do it once we come to power. The apathy exhibited towards the building memorial is clear when we look at the budget proposals since 2005.”
Jayant Patil, MLC, Peasants and Workers’ Party, said, “Since the past five years, this proposal has been moved by the state, but the state govt is not serious. I can donate my development fund for the memorial if the state lacks funds,” said Patil.
